How to Measure Your Rooms

Measure length & widthMeasure the longest and widest points of the room in feet, including any alcoves or closets.

Use feet and inchesEnter feet only — e.g. 12 ft 6 in = 12.5 ft. Round up to the nearest half foot.

Include closetsAdd closet floor area to the room measurement — flooring runs under sliding doors and into closets.

Measuring Tips by Flooring Type
Carpet
Carpet comes in 12 ft rolls. For rooms wider than 12 ft a seam is needed — factor this into your order and placement plan.
Laminate & LVP
Click-together floors need a 10% waste minimum. Add 15–20% for diagonal layouts or rooms with lots of angles and doorways.
LooseLay
LooseLay is glued down rather than clicked together — cutting waste is typically lower than click systems, but always order at least 10% extra.
Tile
Tile typically needs 10–15% waste for cuts. Large format tiles or diagonal patterns need more — discuss with your installer before ordering.
Hardwood
Hardwood needs to acclimate to your home before installation. Order at least 10% extra and allow 3–5 days for acclimation in Arizona's dry climate.
Odd-shaped rooms
For L-shaped or irregular rooms, split into rectangles, calculate each section separately, and add them together — then apply your waste factor.
